On the one hand, it seems like it should be March already; but on the other- holy cow, we’re already in the second week of January! Which leads me to wonder: how is everyone doing on their resolutions?
I don’t know about you, but I’m never overly jazzed about the whole “making a resolution” thing, but I do really dig a good intention setting process! I love to do a vision-board activity, write in my journal, meditate, pull tarot cards & because I’m a total foodie, I loooooove a good meal out somewhere cool to commemorate another year of growth and love with good people. Now, I’m not saying I’ve never made a resolution as the clock struck midnight amid a blurry crowd of noise-making, bubble-glugging, inebriated adults. I certainly have. I also personally know of people who have positively impacted their lives by way of making and sticking to a new year’s resolution. But overall, the entire ritual in and of itself leaves me feeling a little uninspired. By the way, I wrote a piece last year on the origins of the new year’s resolutions and why they often fail, and you can read that here if you’re so inclined!
The reality is that sometimes our personal new year doesn’t line up with the first day of the new calendar year, and that’s ok! Often, it can take a couple of days, weeks or even months to actually feel your own mojo rising. I for one experienced that this year. The holidays seemed long and drawn out and frankly, I felt a little tired as the new year kicked off. It took me a few days to get that lovin’ feelin’ but now it’s all systems go! I think the New Moon Solar Eclipse in Capricorn on the 6th definitely played a role but this week will see a great many of us ramping up our “get ‘er done” phase, with new energy blowing in to help us eliminate distractions, get clear or refine our vision, lay sturdy foundations while constructing quality walls (boundaries), and reaching out to others for the support we need to bring it all to fruition. Remember to honor yourself, listen to your body, go inward each day, and practice sacred self-care on your journey to wherever it is you’re going. Day 1 can totally begin TODAY!
Happy 2019!
